Dr John Brown opened the clinic in 1975 at 122 High Street, Tenterfield. It was a time when the beef market had crashed and yearling steers were bringing in about $30 per head. The practice was a one-person operation for ten years and then continued operating for another twelve years before becoming a three-person practice. In 1980, John established a branch clinic at Texas and started a weekly run to service a horse stud and attend small animals and cattle. Our Tenterfield-based vets still service Texas every few weeks.

The High Street clinic was outgrown and new premises were purchased (the Jehovah’s Witness Church) in Clarence Street. Renovations and extensions began and the clinic, as it is today, opened for business in 1998. John sold the clinic in 2009 to Dr Pip Bacon and continued to work part-time until 2016, when he finally retired after 41 years of servicing clients from as far afield as Texas, Ashford, Deepwater, Drake and Stanthorpe.

Pip and her husband Paul owned the clinic for seven years, expanding their servicing area to the east and establishing an equine hospital at their small farm. Pip also upgraded the clinic’s facilities, building an additional consultation room. Spending precious time with their growing family becoming a priority for Pip and Paul, saw them put the practice on the market in 2016.

Dr Luke Annetts, who had been working in Bundaberg, saw the chance to move closer to his home town of Glen Innes and purchased  the practice in December 2016. Luke and his team continue to operate the Tenterfield Veterinary Clinic as a fully licensed Veterinary Hospital, providing routine care and emergency services, with a network of veterinarians for referral of more complex cases. The Clinic has a servicing territory including Tabulum , Deepwater, Texas and Liston.
